How solunar times work
- Major periods (about 2 hours) are centered on when the moon is straight overhead or straight underfoot, on the other side of the earth.
- Minor periods (about 1 hour) are centered on moonrise and moonset.
- Best days fall around the new moon and full moon. A period that lines up with sunrise or sunset gets a boost.
- This is a traditional fishing guide that many anglers use, not a scientific guarantee. In Florida's coastal waters, moving tides often matter just as much.
- Times are calculated on this page from astronomy formulas and are good to within a few minutes. Panhandle spots west of the Apalachicola River show Central time.
Before you go: check the tides and what you can keep, the weather, and buy your license only from GoOutdoorsFlorida.com, the official state site.
Run a charter, bait shop or marina? Get found by the anglers planning their next trip. One $8 This Is Florida passport works both ways, for members and businesses, and you keep your own prices. Ask us about a listing.
