Current office

Ashley Moody is a United States senator from Florida. She was sworn in on January 21, 2025, following appointment by Governor Ron DeSantis. The Senate’s official Florida roster identifies her as a current Republican senator as of October 28, 2026. Before entering the Senate she served as Florida attorney general, a circuit judge, a federal prosecutor and an attorney in private practice. Her biography therefore crosses judicial, executive and legislative institutions rather than following a single legislative career. S1S2S3

Moody’s Senate appointment filled the seat previously held by Marco Rubio. A current Florida government directory should list her in the Senate and James Uthmeier in the attorney general’s office, rather than retaining an older state-government list. The Senate’s own historical record is the authority for the change in its membership. This profile describes Moody as an appointed incumbent; it does not assume the result of the next election. S1S3

Early life and education

Moody was born and raised in Plant City. Her official biography describes her as a fifth-generation Floridian. Plant City and Hillsborough County remain important reference points in her background, particularly because her early legal and judicial work was connected with the Tampa Bay region. Her later statewide and federal roles expanded the constituency she served without erasing those local origins. S2

She attended the University of Florida, earning bachelor’s and master’s degrees in accounting as well as a law degree. She also earned a Master of Laws in international law from Stetson University College of Law. These are different credentials: the specialized graduate law degree should not be confused with the professional law degree or treated as evidence of a judicial appointment. The reviewed official biography supplies the institutions and fields, while this profile avoids adding unverified graduation dates. S2

Legal practice and judicial service

Moody began her legal career at Holland & Knight, practicing commercial litigation. She later joined the U.S. Attorney’s Office, where her official biography records prosecution work involving drug, firearm and fraud offenses. Private litigation and federal prosecution involve different clients and authorities; neither position was a seat in the Legislature or a statewide election. S2

In 2006 she was elected to the circuit court serving Hillsborough County. The official biography identifies the court as the Thirteenth Judicial Circuit. Her judicial service preceded her attorney general tenure. That sequence matters because a former judge who becomes a political officeholder no longer exercises the authority of the earlier judicial position merely by retaining the title in a biography. A policy proposal from Senator Moody is not a court ruling. S2

Florida attorney general

Moody served as Florida attorney general from 2019 until her move to the Senate in 2025. Her official account records chairing the Statewide Council on Human Trafficking and participation in the Presidential Commission on Law Enforcement and the Administration of Justice. Those roles form part of her public-service record, but they should be dated to the period in which she held them rather than automatically described as current assignments. S2

The attorney general’s office and a U.S. Senate office also offer different public services. State consumer-protection complaints and state legal opinions belong to the state agency’s processes. Federal legislative inquiries and Senate constituent assistance belong to the congressional office. Residents searching for Moody because of a past attorney general matter may therefore need the current state agency rather than her Senate staff.

Appointment and Senate responsibilities

The Congressional Record documents presentation of Moody’s certificate of appointment and administration of the oath on January 21, 2025. This confirms the assumption-of-office date independently of the office’s biographical description. Appointment announcements, an oath and a later election are separate events, and a government roster should not collapse them into one date. S4

Her official Senate page lists assignments on Judiciary; Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs; Health, Education, Labor and Pensions; the Joint Economic Committee; and the Special Committee on Aging. These assignments identify areas in which she participates in committee work. They do not give her individual authority to decide every matter within a committee’s jurisdiction or to direct an agency without the relevant legal process. S2

The official Aging Committee hearing record for July 2026 lists Moody among committee members for its examination of artificial-intelligence-enabled fraud. A member listing establishes committee membership; it does not alone prove that every listed senator spoke at or attended a particular hearing. The distinction keeps an institutional record from becoming an exaggerated claim of individual participation. S5

Selected legislative proposals

On January 28, 2026, Moody announced the Combating Online Predators Act, a proposal addressing threats to distribute child sexual abuse material. The office framed it as an effort to address sextortion. This profile identifies the introduction as a legislative action; it does not turn the announcement into a claim that the proposal had become law or that existing criminal law covered none of the conduct described. S6

In September 2026, she announced the STARS Act, legislation proposing Florida as the location for a new U.S. Space Academy. The announcement connects her Senate work with Florida’s space-sector interests. It does not establish that a site was selected, that construction had begun, or that a Florida community could promise students an operating academy. A proposal’s title and a senator’s preferred location are not a completed siting decision. S7

These examples show subjects addressed through her Senate office while preserving the difference between sponsorship, enactment and implementation. They are selected public actions, not a campaign platform or a ranking of her performance.

Public contact and transition checks

The Senate’s current directory lists Moody’s Washington office at 387 Russell Senate Office Building, Washington, DC 20510, with telephone 202-224-3041. Her official website provides public correspondence and federal-agency assistance channels. Use those current resources rather than an attorney general address from before January 2025. S1S8

Florida’s seat and election records must be rechecked after any certified election and subsequent assumption of office. A projected winner is not automatically the current senator. This biography remains attached to Moody’s stable person page; the separate seat page should identify the actual officeholder and the effective dates of any transition.
