Florida Avocado Lime Dip
Florida avocados are large, smooth, green-skinned avocados with a light, mild flesh. Mashed with plenty of lime, onion, and cilantro, they make a fresh dip for chips or vegetables. Scale the people count in the app to 2, 4, 6, or 8 — ingredients adjust from this base of 4 servings.

Food safety
Wash the avocado skin before cutting so the knife does not carry germs into the flesh. Wash your hands after handling jalapeño. Refrigerate the dip within 2 hours (1 hour if above 90°F).

Equipment
- mixing bowl
- fork or potato masher
- knife
- cutting board
- spoon
Ingredients (for 4 servings)
- 1 large ripe Florida avocado (about 1 1/2 pounds)
- 3 tablespoons fresh lime juice
- 1 garlic clove, minced
- 2 tablespoons red onion, finely chopped
- 1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
- 1/2 jalapeño, seeded and minced
- 1 tomato, seeded and diced
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon ground cumin
Directions
1. Wash the avocado skin, tomato, jalapeño, onion, and cilantro under running water. Scrub the limes before cutting.
2. Check the avocado: it is ripe when it gives slightly to gentle pressure. Cut it in half around the pit, twist apart, and remove the pit.
3. Scoop the flesh into a mixing bowl and mash with a fork or potato masher, leaving some chunks.
4. Stir in the lime juice right away to keep the avocado from browning.
5. Add the garlic, red onion, cilantro, jalapeño, tomato, salt, and cumin. Stir gently.
6. Taste and add more lime or salt if needed. Serve right away with chips or cut vegetables.
