Before you burn
- “No county burn ban listed” does not mean you may burn. Cities can still prohibit burning.
- Many burns need authorization from the Florida Forest Service before you start (§590.125, Florida Statutes).
- Household garbage and non-vegetative debris are not yard trash — do not burn them.
- Larger piles and agricultural burns often need Forest Service permission even when no county ban is listed.
- Burning hours and setback distances are set in rule 5I-2.006, F.A.C. Confirm those details with the Forest Service or your county before lighting a fire.
