Buckman Lock - St. Johns Loop North & South

The Buckman Lock and St. Johns Loop North and South recreation areas are part of the Marjorie Harris Carr Cross Florida Greenway near Palatka. The lock was built as part of the former Cross Florida Barge Canal project to provide navigational connectivity between the St. Johns River and the Rodman Reservoir. It should not be described simply as a wildlife-migration facility. The published visitor location is 210 Buckman Lock Road. An official notice effective April 14, 2026, states that Buckman Lock is closed to vessel traffic. That restriction does not by itself establish that every nearby trail or recreation area is closed. Check the current operator notice and the separate trail information before arriving, and do not plan a boat passage through the lock while the closure remains in effect.
